Thoughts on the electoral College

Hello everybody. I know I have been away for a long time. I don't really think I've disappointed a lot of people because there aren't that many people reading this anyway.
I wanted to say a few things about the electoral college. I know its a little late in the game to be discussing this since it is not a hot topic; but hey, this blog is not about the hot topics anyway. I remember everybody fussing about the 2004 election. They were saying we should do away with the electoral college and let the popular vote decide the President. This would be a grave mistake. Thomas Jefferson said this:

" A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine."

This is why we do not have a true democracy. This is why we use the electoral college. It is to keep the more populist states from rolling over the smaller. If I had my way there would be to votes for each state. One for the urban areas and one for the rural ones. As it is I would settle for a compromise. Each senatorial district would get one elector and each representative district would get one elector. The electors would be bound by law to vote with the majority in his district. Democrats would not go for this because they would lose votes in their stronghold states. Republicans wouldn't go for this for the same reason. I personally like it. It would force politicians to pay attention to all of the districts. Besides, why should all the electors in Illinois go to the Democratic party because of Cook County. It is not fair to the rural farmers. Think about it.

Evil of Evils

I have to admit to you that I am that foulest of creatures. That most evil of all evils that can exist in in our modern society. I have opted to deny the state the chance to educate my children. That's right; I am a (gasp) home schooler. Shame on me for taking responsibility for the education of my own children. I might actually teach them the truth. We can't have that. I might actually include (dare I say it) religion in my curriculum. I'm horrible.
All kidding aside, I have to say it is the most rewarding experience I have ever had. If you know what its like to have your children tell you what they learned in school for the day, imagine what its like to see the light come on in their little heads as they learn. For those of you who have the ability and the time, I recommend it highly. I have the good fortune of living in Cedar Rapids, IA where the school system actually helps the home schoolers. Amazing, I know, but its true.
I have discovered something recently that is going to be of immense help. It is probably the largest video resource library I personally could ever hope to have access too. It is netflix. I know that most people relate this to entertainment, but; it has an extensive education section. You should try it. If you don't believe me go to this link: NETFLIX
. Look at these titles and read the descriptions. This is just a small portion of what is available. You can find discovery channel and history channel shows. Music, wildlife, and foreign languages. Everything you may need as accessories to your lessons is there, and you have access to you own stuff to boot. I pay $20 a month for three DVD's at a time. There are also plans for $15 (two at a time) and $10 (one at a time). This is great. If you homeschool try it and keep on telling the state to stuff it.

Health Care

Hello, today I would like to address the health care system. We have all heard the reports of the rising cost of health care and health insurance. Well I have the answer for it and it doesn't involve socialized medicine.
The first thing you have to deal with is malpractice insurance. The only way I can think of to lower the cost of malpractice insurance is to cap the amount of malpractice suits. I know what your saying," We can't let the doctors get away with mistakes or incompetence. They wouldn't be as careful if you did that." Balderdash! These are humans(that is all that they are and they cannot be perfect all of the time) just like you or me and would probably do their best to save lives regardless of how much they stand to lose if they mess up. I am not saying they should not be responsibilities for their mistakes, they should pay compensation for that. I just think it should be appropriate compensation and not excessive. Remember we end up footing the bill in doctors fees in the long run. As for gross negligence, incompetence, and intentional mistreatment. It should be handled in the criminal system where they can lose their license and possibly serve jail time.
I know the trial lawyers don't want to hear this, but that's to bad. The welfare of the nation is more important than their pocket books. As for socializing medicine. We will still pay for that. It will just be hidden in the form of taxes. It will also destroy the quality of health care in the this country. Think about this will you. Bye bye.

Inconsideratly Lazy

I saw something that irritated me to no end the other day. It was in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. A man was holding up traffic waiting for a spot near the front. The people he was waiting on had just arrived and were loading an overflowing cart of groceries into their car. The line was backed up out onto the main strip. This would not have bothered me so much if the man had proved to be disabled, elderly, with a pregnant wife, or toting a large number of young children. This was a 30 year old man in what appeared to be excellent condition. LAZY!!!!!!!
Thinking back I can remember people waiting on a slot with an open one two places down. Oooh, you saved a whole ten feet of walking. I admit, this seems like a small problem when you just look at parking; but what about voting. These are probably the same people who complain constantly about the government and can't be bothered to go vote. If you don't vote then SHUT UP! You have given up your right to have a say.
What about the obesity problem in America today. Why are we trying to hold fast food responsible when people can't be bothered to walk a few extra yards to the front of the store. Listen people, if you want to waste more time waiting on a spot close to the front of the store, fine, do it. Don't hold me up in the process. I'm taking whatever spot is open and getting in and out of the store as quickly as possible. I don't have time to wait on someone who is to lazy to be considerate of anyone else. I will still be smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee, and eating pork long after you have a heart attack from your lack of exercise.
This has been a totally useless rave but I feel a lot better now. Thank you for listening.

Greetings

So, there I was; sitting on the leather seat of my '78 impala, smoking a cigarette, and watching white plumes of exhaust drift off into the distance. It was then that I thought," there ought to be a site on the web for people like me. People who think red meat is sacrament and Bambi the best there is. People who remember drinking coffee at four years old and see nothing wrong with that. People who think country music is cultured. People who think 'Brokeback Mountain' sucks." That is why I find myself behind a keyboard now.
So greetings, you have found the site that tells the pc crowd that we will no longer forget good sense to avoid offending people. I am a hideous speller and not that great with words, but I will endeavor to accurate in everything I write and not worry about whose feelings are hurt by the truth. The greatest book ever written said," ...The truth will set you free." Let us be free here.
I invite anyone who wants to post on my site to email me. I will verify the accuracy of your posting before it is posted. I do not believe in censorship by law, but I believe the owner of a property or business does have that right, if only on their property. Here are my only rules: no profanity please, and I demand accuracy. If I see profanity, I will remove the profanity without changing the meaning of the article. If I find inaccuracy I will simply remove the article. Other than that, anything goes.
Just so you know, I do not indorse the clubbing of harp seals. It is cruel and messy. I think if they must kill them they should put a .22 bullet through their head. This is quick, painless, and tidy. Until next time.
